4 Ways to Captivate an Audience
Captivating the attention of those around us is crucial for implementing anything from a new initiative at work to a neighborhood walking group. As individuals with ambitions to make our homes, communities, and career fields a better place we must captivate those around us to build our initiatives.
Here are my tips for captivating those around you:
Selling Point. Have a grasp on the value you bring to your ideal audience. Getting specific on the value you bring to the table can help you develop a strong “selling point”. As human beings we are attracted to hearing individuals discuss the topics they are deeply passionate about. Do you specialize in small business sales? Managing a cross functional team? Acknowledge the skillset you bring to the table.
Your Audience. The approach you have for captivating a classroom of middle schoolers is widely different from captivating a room of executives. Understand your audience and craft your strategy based on what they need. Captivating individuals have a deep understanding of who is in the audience and what that audience needs to feel connected.
Be Yourself. When we think of a leader that is capable of captivating, you may not think of yourself. You may think of someone that is more eloquent, more confident, more powerful, more extroverted. There is always room for growth but, you don’t have to be someone else to be a captivating leader. In fact, you should be you, just the way you are. Allow those around you to connect, relate, and build a relationship with you as yourself!
Preparation. Whether you are leading your team meeting or attending your child’s PTA meeting, arriving prepared truly makes the difference. You communicate with confidence when you have that established foundation of knowledge. Block out 10 minutes in your calendar every week to tie together those finishing pieces for your meetings.
