How To Give a Good Handshake

How To Give a Good Handshake

Making a confident and committed handshake can be a great way to leave a positive and lasting impression. Here are some tips for giving a memorable handshake:

  • Make eye contact: Before extending your hand make sure to establish eye contact. This shows that you are confident and interested in the person you are meeting.
  • Use a committed and firm grip: A firm handshake conveys confidence and professionalism. However, be careful not to grasp too tight, as this can come across as too forward or aggressive.
  • Shake from the elbow: When shaking hands, move your hand up and down from the elbow rather than the wrist, or entire arm from the shoulder. This creates a more natural and fluid motion.
  • Use the appropriate duration: In general, a handshake should last for about 3-5 seconds. Be careful not to hold on for too long, as this can make the other person feel uncomfortable.
  • Add a personal touch: Consider adding a personal touch by repeating the persons name when they share it with you. Example: Terry, nice to meet you.

Remember, a confident and memorable handshake is all about making a genuine connection and leaving a positive impression on the person you are meeting.

“I thought it was very valuable. Though you cannot possibly take away everything, I think there were some key takeaways that I will certainly roll into my daily life. Inspire would be a great venue for her, because she would be especially “inspiring” to women and they would enjoy interacting with her and hearing her story in general. A speaker like Patricia is invaluable and something I took as a privilege to sit through.
