Establishing an executive presence is crucial across all industries and roles. From the board room to the dining room table, leaders with an executive presence lead with honor and respect.
Here are my quick tips to establishing presence in your next meeting:
Have a clear role. Understand what your role is in the project. Are you an advisor, implementor, team member, etc.? Each role requires a different level of leadership. If you are unsure of where you fit in to the project, get clarity from your management team.
Determine action items. Before leaving the meeting, have clearly defined action items for each participant. Determining the steps moving forward sets clear expectations for what is expected from each individual and keeps the project on track.
Poised and Prepared. Set clear objectives for every meeting and communicate those expectations prior to the meeting. Especially if you are wanting specific deliverables, solutions, or progress. When we prepare ourselves, we allow our teams to do the same.
Solution driven responses. Over the course of the project, there will inevitability be situations that push back on your projected deadline. Approach the conflict with solutions, connections, or resource recommendations. The members of your group will turn to a leader that can manage the eb and flow of a project conflict.
