Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and instead of just sending roses to your sweetheart or giving candy to your kids, think outside of the box of chocolates.
This year try to do something completely different and bring happiness to others – maybe even spreading joy to some that would not normally be receiving a gift. This is the year to ambush people with random acts of radical kindness.
By participating in some, or all, of these six random acts – you can spread happiness and kindness to many.
1 ~ Send out five cards that simply say, ‘you are wonderful’. Make sure that the cards are handwritten and give one personalized sassy sentence on why they are wonderful. Instead of just signing your name, instead sign the card, ‘a grateful person in your wake’.
2 ~ Buy a few people Starbucks, or McDonald’s. These small gifts can be given to new colleagues, friends or even random people waiting in the coffee drive-thru behind you. Just pay for their order, without an expected thank you. Not only will this bring a smile to the recipient’s face, but also undoubtedly one to yours too.
3 ~ Find a road side person selling flowers and purchase the whole bucket. Simply spend the morning handing out the flowers to random people that you meet along your commute, or visit a nursing home and give the flowers to the residents on Valentine’s Day.
4 ~ ‘Tweet’ out five grateful messages on Twitter to five unsuspecting people. Everyone likes to feel appreciated and too often we are busy and forget to show our gratitude. By tweeting these grateful messages, not only will the recipient be touched at your thoughtfulness, but the tweet will be on social media for the world to see.
5 ~ Spread Good Gossip about Others. Instead of standing in the break room spreading the latest office rumor, start a new trend by spreading good gossip about one of your co-workers. Tell other colleagues about the wonderful job that person has been doing around the office, or how they have put in extra effort lately. Everyone knows that all gossip spreads quickly and will soon make this individual the talk of the office, helping boost their ego.
6 ~ Make a Food Delivery. Surprise everyone at the office by not only arriving with a smile in the morning, but also adorned with donuts, bagels and coffee to start the day. This may be especially appreciated by those colleagues that are single and might not be looking forward to Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to ‘pay it forward’ with random acts of kindness. Make 2016 the beginning of a positive trend on the day that is notorious for only lovers and reach out to others helping to make it a happy, feel good day for everyone. #EtiquetteCoach
