hot dogsThe sound of music playing. The smell of hot dogs in the air. Thousands of community members joined together with matching jerseys, foam fingers, and team pride. Football season is here, and that means sharing the fun with our family and friends in stadium parking lots hours before the game. Tailgating is an all-American tradition – one many look forward to all year. Enjoy your football season with these tailgating tips:

Plan for Your Head Count: Not enough food to go around or too few chairs to seat the group can quickly dampen the mood of your game day festivities. If you’re not able to supply everything, let those you’ve invited know what they’ll need to bring.

Coordinate Your Cuisine: It doesn’t do your group much good if everyone brings hamburgers and nobody brings rolls. Figure out who’s responsible for what prior to game day so you have everything you need.

Do Your Homework:  You don’t have to know each player’s statistics, but you should know a little bit about the team. If you’re new to the area, or new to football in general, a few online articles can go a long way.

Connect with Others: Tailgating is about more than watching the game; it’s about sharing a common interest with family and friends. Participate in conversations during breaks.

Extend a Hand: In addition to connecting with those you already know, it’s nice to introduce yourself to new faces as well, especially those who may have come with a friend and are having trouble fitting in or feeling at home.

Be a Fan:  Fans cheer, and when fans cheer, the game is more exhilarating. Keep your screams and shouts appropriate and away from others’ ears.

Consume Responsibly: Monitor your food and alcohol intake, and never drive under the influence.
