From fishing to sports to women’s empowerment, blending those passions with the skillsets we have is fulfilling and impactful. As professionals, we craft some of our best work for the things we are most passionate about.

Here are my tips for blending your passions with your work:

Community Initiatives. There are countless causes that are powered by the passionate individuals in our community. Choose a local organization and volunteer your skillset. Working with community organizations is fulfilling, especially when you see the impact in your very own community.

Industry Specific. If pursuing your true passion to become a professional comedian has not come together yet for you, don’t give up on that passion. Utilize your eye for videography in collaboration with the comedy club in your city. We do our best work when it is for a cause we are passionate for.

Content. Establish a place for you to express your passion creatively. If you are passionate about Fantasy Football, start a podcast to discuss your top picks with like minded football enthusiasts. A few ways you can connect with others through content are via a video series, podcast, vlog, specific social media account, podcast, etc.

Own It. The things you were made fun of or punished for as a child are your calling cards. For me, I was always getting in trouble during school for talking and now speaking is my career. Those passions are uniquely yours, don’t give up on them. Find a way to express them and share those gifts.

Assets. Think about the assets you bring to the table not the liabilities, potential of failure, or points of insecurity. It is so often we let those around us determine whether or not we are going to go for it.
